Department Profile

In order to broaden the horizon of understanding about Geographical Studies, the College started B.A. and M.Sc. course in Geography. The Department of Geography has always been committed towards excellence. Along with the theoretical framework, the department has established a well-equipped  GIS Lab for students to learn and enhance their skills through practical applications in the fields of Remote Sensing, GIS and GPS. The Department of Geography has prepared 3-D and 2-D maps of the College which help the students and commuters to get the location of teaching and non-teaching places within the college campus. The department conducts the annual Geo Fest- Resurgence in which students and experts from various colleges participate in academic deliberations to enhance academic interaction. To cater to the needs of students, the geography department has a well-equipped laboratory for conducting practical classes, which are managed by experienced and capable staff. In addition to laboratory, the department has a good collection of books in Departmental Library.

 

  1. GIS Lab: equipped with computers, GPS, Stereoscopes, Rotameter and Planimeter and LCD Projector, maps, models and charts. The lab is well-enabled with satellite imageries, aerial photographs as well as various simulation programs related to various practical’s.
  2. Store Room: The Department also has a separate store room that is issued for the storage of maps, charts as well as instruments and equipment’s.

Scope of the Subject: The Scope of the Course covers the fields such as Geomorphology, Cartographic Techniques, Human Geography, Thematic Cartography, Climatology, Statistical Methods in Geography, Geography of India, Economic Geography, Environmental Geography, Field Work and Research Methodology, Regional Planning and Development, Remote Sensing and GIS, Evolution of Geographical Thought and Disaster Management based Project Work. The career prospects of this course lie in the Survey of India, Space application centre, Urban and rural development departments,  After completion of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Geography, students will be able to:

  1. Analyse the earth as an integrated human-environment system by examining changing interactios at different spatial and temporal scales.
  2. Understand the subject matter of various branches of physical and human geography.
  3. Analyse geographical data and interpret its significance within the context of human-environment relations.
  4. Communicate geographical concepts and data effectively using oral, written and visual forms.
